Need a Hanky? Try a Handkerchief Hem!
Do you know what a handkerchief dress or skirt is? It's dress or skirt that has an asymmetrical hem with several corners. Imagine a square handkerchief, pick it up in the center and that's what this hem looks like. Up until last year, I had associated this hemline with ballroom dancers and figure skaters. And why not? the corners or points of the dress help to create a lot of movement. If you're someone who likes to twirl in dresses, this hemline is definitely for you!
I love shopping during the end of the seasons so I can get the best deals on clothes. Typically, I'll make the purchases knowing that I will have to wait another 6 to 8 months before I can wear them. This was the case with this Banana Republic dress. I got it at the end of last summer and have now just been able to start wearing it.
Of course, I tried it on when I first got it and while the dress fit, I found the uneven hemline awkward. I kept it in my closet and it sat there until a few weeks ago. I'm always surprised at how the right shoes can change your opinion on an outfit. Paired with nude heels, I completely fell in love with this dress! Blue is my favorite color and this shade was perfect for me! It was flirty and bouncy and the handkerchief hemline made it more interesting than a typical dress.
Unfortunately, this dress is no longer available but I've linked a few others below. Let me know what you think!
